Drew Shoe History

Drew's history dates back to 1875 when Irving Drew, with only a few experienced shoemakers, started the business of hand-making extra fine welt shoes for women along the Ohio River in Portsmouth, Ohio, giving birth to the Drew Shoe Corporation (FKA the Irving Drew Shoe Company). The quality of the shoes produced was excellent, and business prospered creating a sizable company. A few years later, George Selby joined with Irving Drew, and the Company become known as the Drew-Selby Company. After several years of successful operations, Mr. Drew and Mr. Selby separated, and Mr. Selby formed the Selby Shoe Company of Portsmouth, Ohio.

An Ohio River flood in 1937 spurred Drew to move its facilities from Portsmouth to Lancaster, Ohio, taking over the old Godman Shoe Factory Building.

The Company currently owns and operates a facility in Lancaster, Ohio, which houses its warehousing, distribution and administrative functions. Drew's 145+ year history has earned the company an excellent reputation resulting in a very high level of repeat business. Its primary customers include many independent podiatrists and orthotic and prosthetic shops, as well as many of the best independent shoe retailers in the United States.
